Making a journal is an excellent way of perfecting drawing and honing your handwriting. Journaling is also a great way of practising mindfulness and for distracting yourself from the stresses of everyday life. So be playful and experiment with the pens you use when you practice this healthy, creative hobby.

The POSCA brush pen is an excellent choice for creative journaling. Innovative and expressive, the brush tip PCF-350 reaches areas that other markers cannot. Painters will enjoy the pleasure of a brush without its disadvantages you have the full paint flow and consistency you expect from a POSCA paint marker but with the creative possibilities of a brush. This means that accomplished artists and beginners and children alike can master painterly basics with ease. If offers you a variety of line widths and is a wonderfully clean way of mastering brush drawing and painting techniques. The POSCA brush pen is also ideal for brush script, which we’re having fun with on this journal opener.

We have tried out a very simple floral design for this June journal opener to give it a bright summery feel. If you’re not feeling the florals simply play around with simple mark making using your brush tip before using the pen to perfect your brush script.

YOU WILL NEED

For your June journal, you’ll need a journal and a red and green POSCA brush pens. That’s it!

1: JUNE JOURNALING – MAKE YOUR MARKS

First, use the very tip of your green brush pen to make three simple curved strokes on the left side of your journal page.

2: JUNE JOURNAL – ADD LEAVES

Using the flat end of your brush, make leaves along the line of your stems. For the more ornate, curved leaves, start making a mark with the tip. Then apply the fullness of the brush down on the page and lift as you draw the shape up.

3: JUNE JOURNAL – DRAW FLOWERS

Now use your red POSCA brush pens to draw in your flowers. To make the open flower shape, make a three curved marks one at the top and two at the bottom. Then add two lines between the triangular shape so the shape resembles a dancing man. For the closed flowers make two curved lines.

4: JUNE JOURNAL – FINISH FLOWERS

To complete your flowers draw curves around the lines to make petals and add a dot in the middle, then colour in the petals.

4: JUNE JOURNAL – START WRITING

Now you can have fun with some brush script. For smaller writing use the very tip of your pen as shown with the green text. To make more robust lettering use brush tip along the full width of your brush when curving your letters.
