Using a rolling pin, flatten out the clay, make sure it is an even and flat surface. The maximum thickness of the clay should be an inch otherwise the decoration will be too heavy for the tree branch and there’s a possibility that the clay will crack when it’s drying if the clay is too thick.

Using your gingerbread man cookie cutter (or any shape you like) carefully push the cutter through the clay. Use a blunt knife to cut away the clay around the outside of the cookie cutter, this will avoid the clay getting stuck.

Use your fingers to gently push out the clay that’s inside the cutter. Smooth the edges to give a softer look, to avoid the ends being harsh and rough.

While the clay is still soft, use the wooden end of your paint brush to carefully push a hole through the centre top of your decoration – this is where we will feed through the ribbon to hang our decoration on the tree.

Now put your decoration aside for 24 hours until the clay is dry.

Once you are positive that the clay is dry… IT’S TIME TO GET CREATIVE!

Using your acrylic paint, apply an even layer over your clay decoration, make sure to paint around the edges and the back of your tree decoration to avoid any clay peeping through!
