About Us

In 1887 a man named Niroku Masaki started a small company making pencils in Tokyo. Almost 100 years later in 1979 the first uni-ball rollerball pen was created. The quality and writing performance made it an instant hit in Japan and America. Fast-forward another 15 years to 1994 and the Eye rollerball that uni-ball is now known for was created. Since then it’s popularity has continued to grow, making it one of the world’s most popular rollerball pens.

Recent innovations include the Signo TSI Erasable ink pen, which is available in a wide range of colours and allows you to easily erase and correct mistakes. Also, the uni-ball Air which represents the next generation of rollerball pens and the evolution of writing. It writes like a fountain pen with a flexible tip which adapts to your writing style and allows you to achieve smooth, flowing handwriting.

“Masaki Yamato Pencil Co. Ltd” ” was rebranded “Mitsubishi Pencil Co. Ltd ” in 1952; today it employs over 3500 people and uni-ball pens are sold in more than 100 countries around the world.

In 2016 uni-ball and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) formed a relationship. From June 2016 every GOSH branded uni-ball Eye twin or triple pack sold, uni-ball will donate 20p plus VAT to the charity. GOSH is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals treating seriously ill young patients from the UK and further afield. The Charity raises crucial funds to enable the hospital to provide world class care and to pioneer new treatments and cures for childhood illnesses and we are proud to be supporting this cause. In addition to the donations from the sale of the uni-ball eye packs, our employees also participate in a number of ad-hoc activities to raise additional money for the charity. These include the likes of “Great uni-ball Bake Off” and participation in a 10km muddy obstacle race. We’re extremely passionate about this cause and are always reviewing how to further support them.
